The Bon Lemon Revue

When I was going through my "lemon" phase and trying to figure out how to make lemonade, I was brainstorming a lot of business ideas. I contemplated entering the political world as an attorney or lobbyist (maybe someday), I thought seriously about an organic baby food company, and I wanted to start a weekly, online news program summarizing all things pertinent to savvy ladies.

I spoke to many of my friends who said they were too busy to listen to Fox News or CNN everyday. They wanted to know what was going on in the world, but with the limited free time they had, US Weekly was winning out. I have a variety of interests, want to stay informed, and have a short attention span, so I get my news from a variety of sources. I like to know what's happening with the economy, people, politics, fashion, and food. I don't have the patience for the six page articles in The Economist, and pundits like Glen Beck make me want to through myself on hot coals. (Give me facts and opinions not rhetoric.)

I read Vanity Fair, Fast Company, The Puget Sound Business Journal, and The Week religiously. I read at least ten other magazines recreationally. I stay up to date with current events via Facebook and Twitter. I don't watch the local news on television unless I am visiting 6 Par Farmer, because I find it sensationalized and one dimensional. The most important element of information these days is editing. I don't care if we are talking about shoes or taxes, I want someone who can synthesize the information succinctly. Brevity please.

Now that Bon Lemon is starting to hit it's stride, I have been thinking of new ways to build the Bon Lemon community. I keep coming back to the idea of a well edited news source. What if we could create a news source that combined a succinct explanation of the bombings in Moscow combined with a snippet on American Idol and a little fashion/wine/food tip thrown in? We won't replace Marie Claire, TMZ, or the Wall Street Journal, but we will give you enough info to decide whether you want to find out more. With that goal in mind: The Bon Lemon Revue is born!

The Bon Lemon Revue will bring you well edited news and info to stay savvy. Whether you are looking for cocktail conversation or a teaser to determine whether you want to know more, we hope The Bon Lemon Revue will be your source for brevity and relevant information in less than fifteen minutes per week (yes, it an be done!).

Coming soon to Bon Lemon: The Bon Lemon Revue!

Chic Lemons

Here at Bon Lemon, we have always known lemons are chic. Tres chic! But now, many retailers are getting on the bandwagon. And we couldn't be more excited! Williams Sonoma has these great botanical lemon plates.

And Sur La Table's spring collecting is bursting with lemons. (You might see some of these pieces at the Bon Lemon shoppe. :)

We love lemons! Because when life gives you lemons... put on something sparkly.

When life gives you lemons...go find a rainbow

Here at Bon Lemon, we talk a lot about making lemonade out of lemons.

It has been pretty dreary weather here in Washington state. There was even a house that fell into the ocean yesterday. (Apparently, the owners were expecting it and were in good spirits watching it crash into the sea.) The dreary weather doesn't always motivate people to go play outside.

Yesterday, Dolce Vita Evans, 6 Par Farmer, Sweet Peach, J. Crew Logger and I drove to a nice walking path overlooking the Puget Sound. We brought our raincoats. We had good intentions. And then we looked outside at the incessant rainfall. And we proceeded directly to See's chocolates to pick up some rum nougat chocolates. (I think I need to go eat one right now...) Okay. I am back. Yesterday, it was down pouring. And this is coming from someone who lives in Washington and knows what a down pour is.

Today, it was down pouring again. But Dolce Vita Evans wasn't taking no for an answer. 6 Par Farmer and I put on our rain jackets and headed out into the thick of it. It drenched us for a few minutes, but then it cleared up. I turned around and there was a rainbow. We didn't get rained on the rest of the walk.

Sometimes heading directly into the storm seems like the worst idea ever. But often, facing the storm head on is the only way you can see what is on the other side of the clouds. And it might be a rainbow.

When life gives you lemons...go find a rainbow.

Introduction

I have heard this happens with blogs. You start one, and you have hundreds of ideas and interesting things to say, so you are posting ten times per day. And then about a month later, your creativity has dried up and you are writing about dermatitis or how your carpets need to be cleaned.

Well, since I am still in the honeymoon phase with my blog, I have all sorts of things to share. (Posts on skin disorders and cleaning supplies will likely commence in approximately one month.)

I thought now would be a good time to introduce Bon Lemon, because, as of now, we have a total of, wait for it, 0 followers, which would lead me to believe the only person who has any idea what Bon Lemon is is my dog Dolce Vita Evans. (Yes, he is a person.) Bon Lemon spawned out of a period in my life when there seemed to be a lot of lemons. Picked up a purported orange. Lemon. Bought a kiwi. Lemon. But as the saying goes, I kept trying to make lemonade. (Occasionally, with a little bit of vodka in it.) One of the things that always seemed to perk me up were shiny, sparkly little cocktail rings. They were inexpensive, so even the unemployed, confused, thirty-something could justify the purchase. There's nothing like a little whimsy to perk you up. I got a lot of compliments when I wore the rings (those help perk you up too), and I started thinking it might be fun to sell those little balls of joy.

While on a family shopping trip to Seattle (a bit of an Evans ritual), we saw an adorable card by http://www.bellamuse.com/ that said, "Where's the f*ing lemonade?" We couldn't stop giggling about it and the wheels started turning. The trunk show business I had been dreaming up in my head was starting to come to fruition. (Mr. Tyler Kolstad gets credit for the name. One of his favorite sayings is "bonne chance," so it was only fitting. And, we think, it is fabulous.)

This blog will keep you up to date with Bon Lemon. I have a law degree, but I never quite figured out how to conjugate verbs and every time I write affect or effect I have to google it to see which one is correct, so don't expect this blog to be a literary masterpiece. I like misusing words and grammar, just ask my legal writing teacher. :) (For beautiful language, check out http://glaciercountyhoney.wordpress.com/ which is fabulous, touching, entertaining, and perfectly worded all at once. I do not aspire to reach this level of bloggtasticness.)

My goal for this blog is to create a place to show you some of our items, tell you when and where we are having trunk shows, and get your ideas on new products. I have always had a hankering for the finer things in life, but also consider myself street smart and savvy. I like to buy pieces that are expensive and look fabulous and mix them with things that are inexpensive, but look like a million bucks. The whole Citizens jeans with Target top look. I think it makes you look classy, without wasting money on things that look cheap, but aren't. That is the inspiration behind Bon Lemon.

Our focus is to provide a well edited selection of fabulous things. To start we are focusing on jewelry and accessories, but in the future we hope to add other fabulous things. Anything really. Cashmere sweaters, throw pillows, cooking supplies, kids stuff. Pretty much anything that is fabulous and we can provide it to you at a good price. Our current product line ranges from $12-$350 with most items being under $40. The goal is to be stylish AND savvy.

I'm really excited this is all coming together. First trunk show will be in August at Spruce Skin and Wax Shoppe in Olympia. More details to come!
