Something Tasty: S'Mores Thingey

I spent yesterday driving from Missoula to Great Falls. Via Hamilton. Oh my, did that make for a long day in the car. But it was well worth it, because I got to see my Big Brothers Big Sisters Little Sis who I haven't seen in months, and I got to meet up with my luva. Success!

One of my favorite places to stop on I-90 is the Rattlesnake Trading Company in Missoula. My love affair started with the Breakfast Thingey, their eggy, cheesy, morning delight I would grab on my way to law school. My love quickly spread to the S'Mores Thingey. (I am not even sure if that is what it is called, but that's what I call it.) It is a staple snack on my road trips.

Golden Grahams + Marshmallows + Mini-Chocolate Chips = Delicious Goodness. The perfect highwaywoman snack.

4th of July Road Trip

We are on a 4th of July Road Trip. First stop: the farm. Second stop: the lake. Woo hoo! (And I have my trusty wireless port, so I can work on Bon Lemon all the way along.) This is my traveling companion M2. (M1 is at basketball camp.) M2 and I are having fun plotting pranks to play on 6 Par Farmer. Insert mischievous laugh.

6 Par Farmer is our trusty driver. (Because he is so camera shy, we had to tickle him to make him smile for the picture.)

And this is me. A Grayling necklace and earrings are appropriate farm attire, right? The day wouldn't be the same without a little Bon Lemon. Even if I am dressing up for the wheat and the ranch dogs.

Hope everyone is gearing up for the nice weather this weekend. Happy Independence Day (Almost)!

Don't read/watch this unless you are really bored...

I documented our road trip from Scottsdale, Arizona to Great Falls, Montana. (Including a stop in Camp Verde, Arizona. It was "deliciously country.") And then my road trip from Great Falls, Montana to Olympia, Washington. 30 hours in the car. I must say, it has given me new motivation to go on a diet...

I think this video is almost as boring as the drive, but there is some good scenery. And you can hear little bits of my book on tape or Pandora playing in the background.

Enjoy at your own risk.

Mobile Office

I have always enjoyed conducting business from wherever I happen to be. It makes life easier. And more fun. Today, I am conducting business from somewhere in Utah on I-17. I am the co-pilot on a 20 hour drive from Scottsdale, Arizona to Great Falls, Montana. I must be honest, I was not looking forward to this drive. I have logged A LOT of hours on the road this year spreading the Bon Lemon love, and the idea of tacking twenty more on just for fun sounded like listening to Michael Buble while eating mouthfuls of cilantro. (There is only so much sitting my butt can take before it, along with my stomach, start to look like a science experiment gone wrong. Even with my snacks of hardboiled eggs and oranges today, I feel myself melting into the seat.)

But 6 Par Farmer makes this migration twice per year. Once in the fall and once again in the spring. I thought it only right to accompany him. And I figured if I was going to be the passenger instead of the driver (I do help with the driving sometimes) I better be productive. I have been meaning to get the Verizon MiFi hotspot thingamajig, so I can use my fancy (read: complicated) new point of sale system on the road. So, I ordered up the thingamajig last week, signed on the dotted line and was ready to head off on our trek, armed with wireless internet connectivity.

So... here I am. With all of my gadgets. Videoing the drive. Playing Words on my iPhone. Trying to do my taxes on my iMac. Blogging with my Mifi. (A touch slow, but pretty cool to have on the drive.) All the while trying not to get carsick.

If I can get a few things done on the drive, beyond gaining 5 pounds and increasing my sodium consumption to alarming levels, I will consider this little endeavor a success. Hopefully, 6 Par Farmer will appreciate the company. Although, I think my impatience is tangible, as he offered to buy me champagne at the last gas station. (He's a lover.) When we arrive on Sunday in Great Falls, I will run around the block as many times as possible preparing for my 10 hour drive back to Olympia. I have to get back in the car? Shoot. Me. Now.

I need a jet.

How to Eat 3 Meals/Day at Gas Stations

This blog should probably be titled, "What Not to Eat." Alas...

Thursday night, Bon Lemon did a fabulous trunk show in Irvine, CA to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you don't know about this disease, check it out (http://www.cff.org). It is no bueno. The good news is they have increased the life expectancy through science and research, and our trunk show raised money for more research. Maybe someday they will find a cure. I hope so!

Anyway. I digress. I was staying at a friend's parent's house in Irvine, and I decided I needed to leave really early if I was going to beat the LA traffic. So, I awoke at 4:30 AM, gathered my things, let myself out of the quiet, sleepy house, and locked the door behind me. And then, "Crap. Crap. Crap." I left my cell phone in the house! The locked house. The house full of my friend's sleeping family. I tried the back door and the side door. Locked. Then, I contemplated my options.

Option 1: Ring doorbell, wake the whole family up, and retrieve phone. (Friend's mom would not be pleased.) Option 2: Leave without cell phone for 18 hour, solo road trip. (My mom would not be pleased.) Despite my trepidation about driving without a phone, I opted not to wake an entire family up. (My mom will forgive me :) On I went. Without a cell phone. There will be no texting and driving today!

At about 6:15, I had passed the majority of LA, where my risk of traffic was the highest. I pulled off to get some gas and breakfast. Because I didn't have my phone, I couldn't look ahead to find a good place to eat and a gas up. So, I took my chances at a little place I like to call: Chevron.

My first meal of the day consisted of: a hot dog (It is a bit alarming that enough people eat hot dogs at 6:00 AM to warrant having them hot and ready.), a cheddar cheese stick, a Starbucks Double Shot (love those things), and 1/2 of Snickers (they are doing this cool thing now where they give you two smaller bars in the same package. I am aware it is probably unhealthy I know that.) I was hungry, okay.

I drove for another 6 hours. (Did I mention I didn't have a cell phone? And I am in central California? Soooo boring.) I was getting hungry, but I had driven by some pretty nasty examples of factory dairy farms, so the idea of eating any animal products made me want to hurl. I opted for Blue Diamond Wasabi and Soy Almonds, another Starbucks Double Shot, a bottle of Smart Water, and a Naked Juice Green Machine (There are benefits to big business. Now that Pepsi owns Naked Juice, I can be in the middle of nowhere and get a pretty decent juice.) This is an example of what you should purchase when required to eat at a gas station, sans the coffee drink. Nuts, juice, water, and cheese. Those are the ONLY healthy things that exist at a gas station. Trust me, I have tested this theory.

I made it to central Oregon before I was ready for dinner. By this time, I felt like I needed something substantial. I saw a gas station/deli and thought they might have something healthy and quick. I had a pastrami sandwich, chicken enchilada soup, Lays potato chips, and a Wild Cherry Pepsi. Yummy! The best choice of the day. If you can find a quasi local place, GO! They are almost always better than the chains.

After 18 hours, I made it from Orange County to Olympia. Every meal I ate came from a gas station. I drank and ate things I wouldn't otherwise think about ingesting. I was drunk with fatigue. And had probably overdosed on sodium and caffeine. If you are planning to head out on such a road trip, I have a couple of tips.

1. Don't forget a cell phone.
2. Pack a cooler with breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Travelling Companion

Dolce Vita Evans makes a great travelling companion. Pluses: he doesn't talk to me, I can pet him when I need company, and he only gets to stop to pee when I do. Minuses: he doesn't talk to me, he is hairy, and sometimes he can be a touch stinky.

We are currently in San Diego, headed to a trunk show in Irvine this afternoon, and then a quick trip back to Washington after that.

Wish us luck. (And please send lint rollers.)

Trunk Show Road Trip

We are taking Bon Lemon on the road. After our warm response in the Pacific Northwest, we are taking our trunk shows to Arizona and California. Watch out world! We have tons of new merchandise we are super excited to show off. Grayling jewelry (love), scarves, earrings, Pretty Little Lion hairbows, bracelets, and more! Yippee!

This is what happens when you drive 24 hours from Olympia, Wa to Scottsdale, AZ. You start making blog videos... I apologize in advance. ;)
